From Procrastination to Inspiration

Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by your packed schedule and responsibilities?

Do you ever feel like opportunities seem to be visible but just beyond your reach?

Procrastination is an avoidance tactic we use when we’re anxious and overwhelmed.

Procrastination is one of the main barriers blocking you from getting up, making the right decisions, and living the dream life you’ve imagined. However, if you can overcome this fierce enemy, you’ll be able to accomplish more, and in doing so, better utilize the potential that life has to offer.

We now know that the world today is conducive to procrastinating – and learning how to overcome procrastination is one of the most important skills you can understand.

Here’s how to transform from procrastination to inspiration:

Do what fuels you first.

We often spend our energy on obligations and chores that drain us rather than inspire us. By doing what fuels you first, you will raise your vibration, and inspiration will follow. Inspiration gives us the focus, energy, and motivation to forge forward.

Connect.

Humans don’t belong to only one tribe; we belong to many. When you deliberately create and foster relationships with like-minded people and share your passions, you’ll find a sense of enthusiasm and encouragement that will sustain your energy, inspire you, and pique your curiosity.

Greet your feelings of fear and anxiety.

By acknowledging your feelings of fear and anxiety, you’ll be able to assign them to their rightful place – at the back of the room. You can even go so far as to address your fears by saying, “Thank you for taking care of me by holding me back, but I’ve got this so that you can stand down.”

Don’t think.

Overthinking is one of the primary causes of anxiety which, as you know, is debilitating and leads to procrastination. We tend to spend our precious energy thinking, ruminating, and overthinking some more. While planning is excellent (and yes, encouraged!), if you find that the planning is your first step to procrastination, skip the planning and DO IT! When we jump in and get going, often, the following action required will unfold organically.

Move and change your scenery.

We often feel tethered to our desks and fall into the trap of thinking that the longer we sit there, the more ideas are bound to emerge from our screens or thoughts. Many innovators, creators, and inventors find their inspiration AWAY from their place and space of work. Take a walk through your city or town and look around you. Soak up what you see, hear and smell. Chat to your barista or strangers in the park. Meet a friend for a cup of coffee. The movement will increase blood flow, and oxygen to the brain and, what you experience and the exchanges you have will stimulate your brain.
